How to Strengthen Your Mind-Body Connection at Work

Let’s be honest: work can be exhausting. Endless meetings, overflowing inboxes, and way too much coffee trying to keep up with it all. But here’s the thing—success at work isn’t just about grinding harder. It’s about taking care of the only tool you can’t replace: your body and mind.

That’s why Forbes Coaches Council recently rounded up 17 experts to share their best tips on the mind-body connection at work. I was lucky enough to be one of them, and here’s the advice I shared:

Leverage Short-Term And Long-Term Strategies

You can include ongoing, long-term and short-term, immediate strategies in your life. It’s important to take time during the day to listen to your body, take a break and breathe. They work in the moment. However, building in regular exercise or meditation outside of work enhances your ability to manage daily ups and downs at work. You can’t go to the gym in the middle of a stressful meeting. You can, however, take three deep breaths. You can go to the gym after work!

It’s simple, and it works! (Trust me, if it doesn’t work in real life, I don’t recommend it.)

The idea is this: when your body is stressed, your brain doesn’t exactly show up with its best ideas. By paying attention to the signals your body is sending—tight shoulders, shallow breathing, fatigue—you can reset faster and make better choices. Think of it like giving your brain a pit stop so it doesn’t crash halfway through the race.

The full Forbes article is packed with practical ideas, from posture tweaks to breathing techniques. None of it is rocket science, but that’s the point. Small shifts make a big difference when you’re trying to stay sane, productive, and maybe even happy while you work.

Here’s the takeaway

Success isn’t just about getting stuff done—it’s about how you feel while you’re doing it. If you’re fried, foggy, or frustrated, you’re not exactly setting yourself up to shine. Strengthening your mind-body connection is one of the easiest ways to keep your energy up and your focus sharp.
